Hello everyone! Happy New Year and welcome back to the Rothwell Preservation Trust’s weekly Post – keeping you up-to-date about the Trust and its buildings! This is our first Post of 2025! 👍
We’re continuing our new series across social media and our website: “From the Archives…” celebrating images of our iconic Market House through the years.
Whether you’ve lived in Rothwell all your life (and seen most of the existing pictures in various places!) or just moved in to the area, we hope there will be something for everyone. 👌
In the latest in our series of archive images – we’re pleased to present our SIXTH in this series. This one is very unusual, and we think that many of you won’t have seen it before! It’s a paperweight sent to us by ex-Rowellian, Richard Dimbleby, who received it as a gift some 30/40 years ago from the Gift Shop at the Old Fire Station in the town. The paperweight is one of a pair (the other features the Jesus Hospital). Richard, now living in Northampton, remembers borrowing books from Miss Warren, the Librarian, when the Market House was the home of the town’s Library.
We know very little else about these paperweights
and if you know more, please get in touch with us.

If you have any images of the Market House – especially if they’re unusual – drop us a line and we’ll cross-check it with what we have lined up and let you know. We look forward to hearing from you! Contact us at [email protected] or leave a message below.
Thanks for following us across our online platforms. Using Facebook, Instagram or subscribing to our website is the easiest way to stay on top of everything the Trust is involved in.
As many of you know, the Market House needs a major makeover. The roof is leaking and must be replaced soon, so why not help us preserve Rothwell’s most recognisable building for future generations by making a donation – Thank you! – Our Fundraising Page is HERE.
We’d like to thank Northamptonshire Archive Service and our good friends at Rothwell Arts & Heritage Centre for their help in collating the content for this series 😁.
