As part of our long-term strategy to collaborate even more closely with the local community, the Rothwell Preservation Trust is pleased to announce that it is working in partnership with Montsaye Academy and Moulton College on a range of mutually beneficial projects over the next 36 months.

On Tuesday, 14th July, the Trust was invited to Montsaye Academy Careers Networking Event at the Academy. Working in collaboration with Moulton College, the Trust co-manned the Stand to explain the role of the Trust and to encourage Year 10 and Year 12 Students to consider a heritage career in Stonemasonry.

It was a well-supported ‘hands on’ event giving Students a unique opportunity to try their skill at carving stone using traditional tools.

In addition to the practical tasks, each Student was given a Careers Passport that was used to obtain ‘stamps’ from Exhibitors based on ‘engaging in meaningful conversation’, ‘asking relevant questions’ and ‘demonstrating polite and respectful behaviour’.

Everyone felt this had been a very productive and worthwhile event. It offered Students a valuable insight into an age-old, highly skilled profession, using the unique Stonemasonry assets available locally at Moulton College.
